YouTube pays for monetized views, not for subscribers. On their own, 1,000 subscribers are worth $0: they give access to the YouTube Partner Program. A new partner channel with 5,000 to 25,000 monthly long-form views earns roughly $16 to $375, depending on niche RPM. Your first payment arrives only after your AdSense balance passes $100.

Channel memberships are worth it when your audience already watches you every week: 0.5% to 2% of active viewers join, and you keep 70% of what they pay. A 100,000-subscriber channel converting 1% at a $4.99 level books about $3,493 a month in YouTube membership revenue. You are buying a predictable floor under your cash flow, not a jackpot.

A Premium member watches your video with no ads. You still get paid. YouTube splits subscription money with creators based on how many minutes members spend on your content, so an ad-free view is a different payout, not a missing one. As of 10 August 2026, YouTube announced that the pools are public: 30% of net Premium revenue and 60% of net Premium Lite revenue, shared 55% to long-form and 45% to Shorts.

The 50 highest-paid creators earned a combined $1.02 billion between March 2025 and March 2026, the first time the Forbes ranking crossed a billion dollars. MrBeast alone accounts for about $300 million of that, roughly 30% of the whole list. Every figure here is an estimate of gross income, before production costs, team payroll, and tax.
